Health Support Tech Positions 

Health Support Technician Duties and Responsibilities:

The incumbent of this position will be responsible for performing health related activities in assigned school health room while school is in session. The incumbent in this position is responsible for the integrity and confidentiality of data sets under his/her control.  The incumbent of this position will come to work and exhibit an attitude of friendliness and eager customer service towards all clients and act respectfully and courteously to fellow employees and clients. The incumbent will be under the indirect supervision of the lead nurse and principal.

  1. SERVICE:  Dispenses medication independently to students at the assigned school according to the established policy and procedure.  Maintains proper documentation and parent awareness of the need to re-supply medication.  This will include a variety of types of medications, which are reflective of the complex nature of the student. The medication may be an oral suspension, which needs to be measured, oral pills with different dosages, injectable medications, inhalers, rectal medications, and epi-pens in case of an emergency.
  2. Responsible for the day-to-day routine care and first aid care in the health room.  This will include minor injuries, lice checks, communicable diseases and conditions such as scabies, impetigo, colds, flu, pink eye, and allergic reactions Refers students to school nurse, school personnel or parent as appropriate.  This position will need to triage students and care for the most critical needs first, notifies lead nurse and/or principal of acutely ill or injured students, performs specialized medical procedures for students after receiving child specific training and delegation by the lead nurse, maintains a clean, safe, adequately stocked health room. Performs other required health duties as needed.  These may include postural drainage for students with cystic fibrosis, breathing treatments for asthmatics, treatment of elevated or low blood sugars of diabetics, and care of a student having a seizure, clean catherizations.
  3. Responsible for routine health screenings, which include vision, hearing, height/weight, BMI, and blood pressure checks.  This position will chart and maintain all necessary information for required Annual School Health reports.
  4. Performs other clerical duties, including required reports, filing, maintaining student medical records and answering telephone. Assisting with Quality Improvement activities. Attendance of staff meetings and trainings.

 Requirements Needed:

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

  1. Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): Must possess a current Florida Drivers License.  Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  2. Other job-related requirements for this position

a. Technical /computer skills.

b. Must have reliable and current contact information available because this position is required to respond and/or work a special needs shelter during the event of a disaster, whether it be man-made or natural, and may require to working beyond normal work hours and/or days performing emergency duties.  These duties may require working in abnormal conditions and/or potentially hazardous environment.

3. Must be in compliance with Florida Department of Health Operating Policy No. A-005 regarding immunizations.

4. Incumbent must physically be able to walk and stand for long periods of time, bend, climb one flight of steps, turn patients and lift a minimum of 25 pounds.

5. Must submit to a level 2 background screening and drug screening.

Pay:  $9.96 per hour – bi-weekly- incumbent will be paid for work time while school is in session. (Not paid during Holidays, School Closures or Summer Break)
Working hours: 29.5 per week
No benefits are offered at this time.
