Sandon S. Speedling

In August 2019, Sandon S. Speedling, MHS, CPM, CPH, was appointed Administrator/Health Officer for the Florida Department of Health in Bay County (DOH-Bay), following an interim appointment in May 2019. 

Speedling is a public health professional with more than 30 years of health care experience. He actively strives to improve public health practices and influence key communities to promote healthy lifestyles. He currently serves as Chairman of the Emerald Coast Consortium of Health Officers for Region 1, Chairman of the Child Abuse Death Review Committee for Circuit 14, and was appointed to serve as a Board Member for the Statewide Child Abuse Death Review Committee. He also serves as a Board Member for the Panhandle Health Alliance and has served as a Public Health Accreditation Board site reviewer. In addition, Speedling served as president for the Florida Public Health Association.  

From January 2022 to August 2022, Speedling also served as Interim Administrator/Health Officer for the Florida Department of Health in Leon County in conjunction with his role as Administrator/Health Officer for DOH-Bay. Speedling was previously the Administrator/Health Officer for the Florida Department of Health in Jackson County from May 2018 to May 2019, following an interim appointment in May 2016. Speedling also previously served as Assistant County Health Department Director for DOH-Bay from February 2009 to May 2016.  

Speedling graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in Business, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity (Epsilon Nu Chapter). He continued his studies at Mississippi College, earning a master’s degree in Health Services Administration in 1994. In 2014, he obtained the Certified Public Manager designation from the Florida Center for Public Management at Florida State University. In 2019, he obtained the Certification in Public Health credential by the National Board of Public Health Examiners.  

In 2018, Speedling was recognized as Mississippi College’s Master of Health Services Administration Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. Speedling is married to Diane D. Speedling, M.D., a board- certified anesthesiologist and medical director. Together, they enjoy being active residents of the Emerald Coast.
