Panama City, Fla. – Sandon S. Speedling, MHS, CPM returns to the Florida Department of Health in Bay County as Administrator/Health Officer. His appointment by State Surgeon General Scott A. Rivkees, MD, is confirmed by the Bay County Board of County Commissioners. This marks a homecoming for Speedling who served as the Assistant County Health Department Director for Florida Department of Health in Bay County from February 2009 through May 2016.

A special homecoming, as I started my career with the Department of Health 10-1/2 half years ago in Bay County., said Sandon S. Speedling, MHS, CPM, Administrator/Health Officer, Florida Department of Health in Bay County. “I am so proud of our staff and health department and the significant progress made in repairing and re-engaging our community partners to further enhance the health department’s mission in providing quality public health services. I am very grateful for this opportunity to serve in this role and sincerely appreciate, Dr. Scott Rivkees, MD, Florida State Surgeon General and the Bay County Board of County Commission’s vote of confidence. I am excited about the future and anticipate great achievements for Bay County.”

Speedling is a 1992 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and a 1994 graduate of Mississippi College where he received his Master’s degree in Health Services Administration. Speedling was most recently the Administrator/Health Officer for the Florida Department of Health in Jackson County in Marianna, Florida. He was the Administrator/Health Officer from May 2018 through May 2019 and served as interim from May 2016 through May 2018.     

Speedling has been a Public Health Accreditation Board site reviewer for six years and successfully assisted the Lorain County Public Health System in Elyria, Ohio through the accreditation process. He is focused on providing quality leadership to the Florida Department of Health in Bay County to be recognized as a high performing county health department. In addition, Mr. Speedling currently serves as Immediate Past President for the Florida Public Health Association.

In 2018, Speedling was recognized as Mississippi College’s Masters of Health Services Administration Distinguished Alumni of the Year. Sandon S. Speedling is married to Dr. Diane D. Speedling, M.D., Board Certified Anesthesiologist and Medical Director for The Surgery Center at Sacred Heart Medical Park in Destin. They enjoy traveling abroad, attending sporting events and being active residents of the Emerald Coast.
