NEW WIC SITE TO OPEN IN SOUTHPORT
The Florida Department of Health in Bay County will open a new WIC site and have clinic at the Dove
Church located at 7308 Highway 77 in Southport on June 23, 2015.
“We are pleased to announce the opening of a new WIC site in Bay County. This will enable us to reach more of the eligible women and children in our community,” said, Claire Henninger, RD, LD/N, WIC Director of the Florida Department in Bay County. It is through the leadership of Douglas M. Kent, MPH, Administrator that WIC received the opportunity to bring services to Southport and surrounding areas through a partnership with the Dove Church. Ms. Henninger extends sincere appreciation to Pastor Jason Hall and the members of the Dove Church for this opportunity to reach those that can benefit from WIC in this area.
WIC is a federally funded Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. The Florida Department of Health Bay County WIC program provides nutrition education and counseling, breastfeeding support, referrals for health care and community services, and no cost healthy foods. Each WIC client’s unique nutritional needs are identified through a nutrition assessment. This helps WIC provide tailored benefits that are responsive to the client’s individual nutrition needs. And now these benefits are provided through an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card which gives the flexibility of purchasing what foods they need when they want them within benefits issuance dates.
WIC services are provided at the Dove Church the fourth Tuesday of every month from 8 am – 4 pm. For appointments and for more information, please call the main WIC Offices at The Florida
Department of Health in Bay County at 850-872-4666.
