Prevention

During the Fourth of July holiday weekend, Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Surgeon General are reminding all Floridians to protect the vulnerable by avoiding the Three Cs: Closed Spaces, Crowded Places and Close-Contact Settings and by wearing a mask in public:

  1. Closed Spaces. Avoid closed spaces with poor ventilation that could allow contagious droplets to linger in the air.
  2. Crowded Places. Avoid crowded places with many people nearby; the greater the number of individuals in an area, the greater the chances of COVID-19 spreading from person-to-person.
  3. Close-Contact Settings. Avoid close-range conversations and stay at least six-feet from others.

Testing

DOH-Bay will offer free drive-thru COVID-19 viral testing to any person over 18 with or without symptoms on Tuesday, July 7 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the former Springfield City Hall site, 3529 E 3rd ST, Panama City.

DOH-Bay is now testing anyone with symptoms of COVID-19. For screening, please call DOH-Bay at (850) 872-4455 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and follow the prompts. Testing is by appointment only. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, new loss of taste or smell, vomiting or diarrhea, and/or sore throat. The CDC has a symptom checker available at CDC.gov/coronavirus. For additional testing options and information, visit Bay.FloridaHealth.gov.

COVID-19 Question of the Day

What is an antigen test?

An antigen test is a newer COVID-19 viral test that looks for active infection by detecting certain proteins that are part of the virus. Using a nasal or throat swab to get a fluid sample, antigen tests can produce results in minutes. A positive antigen test result is considered very accurate, but there's an increased chance of false negative results — meaning it's possible to be infected with the virus but have negative antigen test results. Depending on the situation, the doctor may recommend a molecular test to confirm a negative antigen test result. In Bay County, antigen tests are being offered through PanCare. Appointments are booked online at PanCareFL.org/COVID-19.
