Panama City, Fla.— The Florida Department of Health in Bay County (DOH-Bay) received confirmation of 86 additional cases of COVID-19, bringing the total cases to 1,193 including 1,154 residents and 39 non-residents. Eight Bay County residents, or 1 percent of all positive cases, have died from COVID-19. A total of 52 Bay County residents, or 5 percent of all cases, have been hospitalized with COVID-19. Bay County’s overall COVID-19 positive testing rate is 11 percent. Of the 11,064 tests processed, 9,847 tests are negative.

Prevention

Protect the vulnerable by avoiding the Three Cs: Closed Spaces, Crowded Places and Close-Contact Settings and by wearing a mask in public:

1. Closed Spaces. Avoid closed spaces with poor ventilation that could allow contagious droplets to linger in the air.
2. Crowded Places. Avoid crowded places with many people nearby; the greater the number of individuals in an area, the greater the chances of COVID-19 spreading from person-to-person.
3. Close-Contact Settings. Avoid close-range conversations and stay at least six-feet from others.

Testing

DOH-Bay is now testing anyone with symptoms of COVID-19. For screening, please call DOH-Bay at (850) 872-4455 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and follow the prompts. Testing is by appointment only. Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, new loss of taste or smell, vomiting or diarrhea, and/or sore throat. How can I protect my child from COVID-19 infection? 

You can encourage your child to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by teaching them to do the same things everyone should do to stay healthy. 

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
• Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue and throw the tissue in the trash.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
• If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects, like tables, countertops, light switches, doorknobs, and cabinet handles.

The Agency for Health Care Administration added an additional tab to the Hospital Bed Capacity Dashboard to reflect hospitalizations with the primary diagnosis of COVID-19.
