Positive youth development (PYD) is a field of study that combines research and program-based efforts to empower youth to make healthy decisions. PYD seeks to strengthen a teen’s ability to respond to life’s challenges in effective ways. Freedom 180 can help youth strengthen relationships and skills while connecting them to networks of supportive adults and provide them with educational volunteer opportunities.
A goal of positive youth development is the promotion of healthy physical, mental, social, and emotional development in youth and teens. Positive youth development equips young people with information, skills, and values that will strengthen them on the path to their future role as productive, positive, healthy citizens likely to succeed in areas of family, work, and society.
